CANDELILLA WAX N.F. (Euphorbia cerifera)

A pale yellow vegetable wax found on the leaves of the candelilla shrub, grown in semi-arid climates. Despite being a hard brittle wax (harder than beeswax) candelilla is softer than carnauba wax. It has multiple uses in various industries including personal care, food and for industrial applications.

BEESWAX PASTILES (Cera flava)

These pastilles, sometimes known as pellets, have a deep golden color and a honey-like aroma. The average dimension of each pastille is 1-2 mm.

Beeswax is produced by the female worker honeybees. The wax is secreted from wax glands on the underside of the bee’s abdomen and is molded into six-sided cells which are filled with honey, then capped with more wax. The origin and production is from honeycombs, by centrifugal process when the material is slightly heated, the residual honey is dissolved in water and separated. The congealed melt wax is then removed and the process is repeated to purify. The resulting wax is formed into pastilles.

Used as a consistency in creams, ointments, lipsticks, eye make-up and suppositories. Beeswax as a covering material is a registered additive in the food industry. It has some emulsification properties, whereby Pseudo ”water in oil” type emulsions are produced. When these types of emulsions are applied to the skin, the water evaporates causing a cooling effect and leaving behind the softening and humectant properties of the beeswax.

Our beeswax pastilles are sometimes sourced globally and often come from countries in South America, Africa, and China. In these locations villagers rely on early techniques of processing beeswax, which can employ open fire pits used to melt and process the honeycomb. Due to this, the beeswax pastilles can occasionally take on a smoky note.

EMULSIFYING WAX

Emulsifying Wax consists of Cetearyl Alcohol and Polysorbate 60.  It blends fats with water and is ideal for improving consistency and stability of emulsions.  It is vegetable based, self-emulsifying, stable in basic and acidic media and highly compatible with most cosmetic and pharmaceutical
